INTERVIEW
  1. Previous job industry/work

Previously, I worked as a software developer at a company that created an e-commerce platform specializing in fashion. I had the opportunity to touch various parts of the system, but I was often in charge of developing functions that focused on the UI. For example, we've created a tool that allows our clients to see a real-time list of visitors to their site, and we've created a page builder that allows clients to easily create pages on their own sites. Therefore, I had many opportunities to communicate closely with clients. Although I enjoyed my job, I felt a strong desire to work in a more international environment. At first, I was planning to go back to the US and work as a developer, but then I had a child, and then the world of corona happened. Deciding that it would be difficult to move my family overseas, I quit my job and began looking for a position with a global company in Japan.

  2. Why did you decide to join GLOBIS?

As you can see from the answer to the first question, I was initially interested in the international aspect of GLOBIS. At that time, we were looking for a developer who could join a project to integrate Japanese and English versions of web services into one service. Additionally, they wanted a developer to help them promote their services internationally. I thought this would be a good fit for me, so I applied. However, after applying, I discovered the ultimate reason for joining GLOBIS. It was the GLOBIS guy. The technology industry is full of talented people. The people at GLOBIS also had the same impression. However, while the people I met were very professional, they were also very friendly and helpful. GLOBIS is full of people who have the perfect balance of talent and personality, and after every interview I felt a strong desire to work with people like this.

  3. Gap felt before and after joining GLOBIS

Before joining the company, one interviewer introduced me to GLOBIS' unique priorities for its employees. My first priority is my personal health, then my family, and finally my work. To be honest, I didn't think much of it at the time. Various companies are sending out similar slogans. However, after joining the company, I realized how important this priority is at GLOBIS. For example, I live in Toyama Prefecture with my family and work remotely. My son is in kindergarten, and I have flexible working hours so I can pick him up, drop him off, and stay home when he's sick. My parents live in the US and I return to support them once or twice a year, working remotely in between. my health, my family, my work. At GLOBIS, this is not just words, but real guidelines for determining priorities in life.

  4. What is your current job?

I am currently working as a front-end developer for the web version of GLOBIS Unlimited. I belong to the student experience development team, so anything related to improving the student experience is within our domain. Making it easier for students to find courses that are right for them, adding features to help them set and achieve learning goals, and general UI improvements are all topics in our scope. Adding and improving features that improve the experience for real users is a lot of fun. And I love that our goal is not just the technical development of the service, but the realistic goal of improving the student experience itself.

  5. What I want to achieve in my future career

Our goal now is to make GLOBIS Unlimited the world's number one microlearning business platform. No matter where I was born or where I live, I want to be the first person that comes to mind when I think about how I can improve my business skills. On top of that, I want to continue to make good things with good people. Fortunately, GLOBIS has a very motivated and talented group of people. Software development is a rapidly changing field, so in the next project I will participate in, I would like to tackle something completely new and challenging both conceptually and technically. In five years' time, I want to be able to say, "I made something amazing with amazing people."

  6. Episodes that felt "GLOBIS-like"

Approximately one year after joining GLOBIS, you will be required to participate in first-year training. Actually, I was a little nervous before the training. I read materials to prepare for the exam, and on the day of the exam, even when I was asked to explain what was written in the textbook, I was a little worried about whether I would be able to answer properly. However, when the day came... that was not the case at all! The main purpose was not to test my knowledge, but to reflect on myself. What is it that you really value? What are your goals in five years? In the end, it was a very meaningful experience. Looking back now, it makes sense. As a school or a company, memorization-based learning is not the purpose of GLOBIS. GLOBIS' purpose is to become a critical thinker and discover your purpose in life.
