INTERVIEW
  1. Previous job industry/work

I worked as an engineer mainly responsible for the operational aspects of IT infrastructure at a company that provides SaaS etc. for financial institutions.

I was in charge of a variety of work, including operational design including monitoring systems, construction of servers necessary for operation, daily operational work, and occasional visits to customer sites. Since it was a hybrid environment of on-premises and cloud, we also performed maintenance on physical equipment. Since we were dealing with customers in the financial industry, the work place required a high level of reliability, accuracy, and immediacy of information.

  2. Why did you decide to join GLOBIS?

I found it interesting that an educational company with over 20 years of experience at the time was creating a web service in-house from scratch and trying to grow it to a world-class level. I had expectations that I would be able to have a completely different experience from joining a company that was founded with IT as its business area from the beginning.

I think that companies that did not originally deal with IT have a hard time adapting to the speed of IT technological change, and often become conservative. However, my impression from my interview with GLOBIS was that they were trying to create an environment and culture that was comparable to other startups.

Also, since the SRE profession that I wanted to apply for had only recently appeared in the world, I wanted to work with them to build an SRE team from the beginning in a newer field. .

  3. Gap felt before and after joining GLOBIS

The balance between top-down and bottom-up was different from what I expected, in a good way. At GLOBIS, there is a phrase "Individual Discretion and Responsibility", and I thought that it was basically a bottom-up company, and all that was required was the initiative of each employee.

Of course, that's not a lie, but after joining the company, I realized for the first time that this is a company with a strong and clear vision from the top. In particular, at a meeting attended by all employees on the first day of work, the president presents the company's policies for the year, which sometimes contain surprisingly bold content. However, this is a policy rather than an order, and how to implement it is left up to the flexible ideas of individual employees and departments. is also provided. After I joined the company, I was left with a strong impression that it was a company that tried to match the company's policies with the intentions of individuals very well.

  4. What is your current job?

I am the team leader of the SRE team. SRE is a position that stands for "Site Reliability Engineer," and is responsible for both ensuring the reliability and speeding up the development of web services provided by GLOBIS.

GLOBIS is growing its business both horizontally and vertically, and several new services have been launched in the three years since I joined the company. Our SRE team is in charge of all services, but as the scale of our services gradually expands, in recent years we have focused on exploring Organization structures and creating mechanisms to help the team function effectively. doing.

Also, since I Working in the office as a playing manager, there are situations where I actually use my hands to build and operate systems on a daily basis. My work involves writing infrastructure as code and creating scripts and mechanisms for automation.

  5. What I want to achieve in my future career

In the short term, we would like to make SRE at GLOBIS an even stronger team. GLOBIS' services will be expanded overseas in the future, and we anticipate continued expansion. There is still much we need to do to ensure that more customers, both domestic and overseas, can use our services in a stable manner. I would like to be able to produce higher outputs with both IT technology and business skills so that SRE can continue to maintain services for a long time.

As for my long-term career vision, I don't actually have a clear picture of my long-term career vision. The SRE position that I currently work in is also a very new job that emerged in Japan around 2016. We live in a world of rapid change, so rather than having a specific long-term vision, I would like to be able to keep up with the trends of the times.

  6. Episodes that felt "GLOBIS-like"

I feel that the `` GLOBIS ness'' is that there are many people who are flexible and enjoy change. This applies to people at all levels, including managers.

In our daily work, there are times when we want to change or stop the way we are doing things, and in some cases we have to approach people from other teams or departments, but many people are willing to work with us. He will think about it. There are many people who don't react passively to suggestions for change and always think of a better direction when talking to me, which is a great help.

Our internal systems are highly flexible and change with the times. While it is natural that the rules for working styles have changed due to the coronavirus pandemic, there have been cases where systems that were introduced for a limited time have been adopted continuously due to favorable reception and usage among employees.
